Ahmed Mubeen, the managing director of Regional Airports Company, was elected New Radiant Sports Club’s chairman on Wednesday night.
The club held the election following the resignation of Ahmed Wasif, who previously held the post.
At a congress held on Wednesday night, New Radiant elected individuals for posts in the club. As each post was contested by a single candidate, the vote was conducted by a show of hands to indicate approval for the candidates.
In this regard, two individuals were elected the club’s Senior Vice Chairman; Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO)’s Managing Director Mujthaba Jaleel and West Henvieru MP Ali Ibrahim (Kappi).
Ali Rasheed (Lawyer Ali) was elected Vice Chairman while Mazin Hussain Ibrahim (Kappi Bro) was elected Legal Counsel.
Members elected for the board included Ismail Rasheed (Hungaanu), Mohamed Shakeel, Mohamed Yousuf, Ahmed Moosa, Ahmed Hussain, Moosa Saaid, Ahmed Yoosuf, Zaheehundheen Saeed, Abdulla Abubakr, Mohamed Ali and Umar Farhan.
Apart from the election of individuals for posts, New Radiant’s Articles of Association was amended at last night’s congress to change the policy which mandates financial contribution to make it a discretion.
New Radiant is one of the most successful football clubs in the Maldives that achieved huge successes in its prime. With recent suspensions, the team has faded away from the football scene.
Notably, Maldivian football scene has lost its hype in recent years with huge allegations of corruption against Football Association of Maldives (FAM)’s leadership including its former president Bassam Adeel Jaleel. However, the current administration has commenced to revive the football culture in the Maldives.
