Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has accused the last MDP administration of cruelty towards some 300 workers in the education sector without proper evidence.
South Fuvahmulah MP had questioned the Minister regarding various complaints that have been submitted to the Ministry over various issues.
Minister Shafeeu responded to the question at Wednesday’s parliamentary sitting during which he revealed being advised by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to treat staff fairly upon his appointment to the post.
On the contrary, he alleged that former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration had acted cruelly towards education sector workers.
In this regard, he detailed that 40 principals were “banished” to schools other than the one they based at, while action was taken against approximately 300 staff without adequate evidence.
The Minister did not provide any further details regarding his claims.
“We will ensure a complaint raised against a teacher or staff is a fair and credible complaint,” he added.
Minister Shafeeu said if the Ministry were to take action regarding every complaint filed with the authority, it would infringe the rights guaranteed to the staff by the law.
“We will uphold integrity in taking action,” he stressed.
On this note, the Minister said the Ministry, at present, probes the credibility of the complaint upon receipt for which teams travel to islands as well.
