Maldivian arrested for attempting to import drugs after swallowing

A Maldivian has been arrested in suspicion of trying to import a large amount of drugs into the country after swallowing. The man was travelling from Sri Lanka.

Police have said that the 40 year old man, who came into the country on the 28th of last month, had swallowed 63 bullets of drugs.

Police said that after he arrived in Male’ and had loaded his belongings to a pick-up, he was arrested near the petrol shed opposite Carnival. They said that at first, they did not find any illegal objects within his belonging, but suspicion arose when the man started acting strange which led the police to believe that he was hiding something within his person.

The police have said that on the 30th of last month, they discovered 61 bullets of drugs from the man after examining the his feces, and also discovered two more bullets the following day.

On the 23 of December last month, a young man of 21 years who flew in on Qatar Airways was also arrested on suspicion of importing drugs. A total of 14 bullets were found on his person.
