Elections have revealed who has most support: PPM

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that the results of the recent by-elections show who has the most support in the country.

PPM said this in a statement issued today in response to a remark made by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential candidate Mohamed Nasheed at a rally held in S. Feydhoo on the night of 1 January 2013, that PPM President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has no public support.

PPM said in its statement that the extent of support for Gayoom is evident by the fact that PPM won 16 out of 19 by-elections, including the Thimarafushi and Ungoofaaru by-elections.

PPM said that even though MDP may find it hard to accept, the success of PPM shows the support the party has today, and that it also shows that PPM is the party most likely to win this year’s presidential election.

The statement further said that the extent of support is understood not by making noise on the streets, rather, it is seen by the vote of the people.
