Suspected thief claims to be fixing roof upon apprehension

A suspected thief who was apprehended by a group of witnesses has claimed he was on the roof of a house for repairs. 

The suspect has been identified as a 39-year-old Maldivian man.

As per the court order, police officers were dispatched to the scene following a report that a suspected thief was apprehended. While he told the people who stopped him that he was repairing the roof of the house, the court order underscored he had responded differently when questioned by the Police.

In this regard, he had claimed he was on the roof after his phone fell on it.

The man has a prior criminal record with 24 arrests over various crimes. He was remanded in custody 15 out of the 24 times.

Criminal Court has remanded him in custody for 15 days on Saturday in connection to the most recent arrest.
