Large tree in Maaveyo Magu falls over causing damage to parked vehicles

A large tree near Countline in Maaveyo Magu in Male' City fell over on Friday evening amid strong winds and rain – causing damage to vehicles parked in the vicinity.

A video of the fallen tree which has closed off the road to vehicles is presently viral on social media.

The video shows some of the motorbikes parked in the vicinity were damaged by the tree falling.

Notably, strong winds have resulted in similar incidents in Hulumale’ subsequent to which some roads have been closed until the premises are cleared.

Maldives Police Service has also issued an advisory, urging caution to individuals crossing Sinamale’ Bridge and highway on motorbikes in light of the strong winds and rain.

A yellow alert is in effect from Raa Atoll to Vaavu Atoll was extended until 19:00pm tonight.

As per Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office), the region will experience strong winds of 28 to 25 miles per house with gusts of 55 miles per hour alongside very rough seas during this period.

Thunderstorms, strong winds and rough seas have been forecasted for most of Maldives over the next 24 hours.

Authorities have urged the public, especially seafarers, to exercise caution in light of the ongoing bad weather spell.
