Guesthouse robbery: female suspect’s partner gets 15-day remand

The court has ordered a 15-day remand on a male suspect for robbing a local man after he was lured to a guesthouse by a female suspect.

The female suspect in the case was previously apprehended and ordered remand. She had lured a local man to a guesthouse room, and robbed him with the help of her male partner when he showed up to the room.

The remanded man is suspected for aiding and abetting in the robbery of MVR 53,000 from the victim. The suspect is identified as Ikleel Ibrahim, 41, of Maafannu Fazaage.

According to the court order, Ikleel, who although is a resident of Fazaage, has been living at a rented room near Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) since he requires regular consultation for a diagnosed brain tumor. The rented room is frequented by several people, the court observed.

On behalf of the victim, the court further observed that the robbed money was credited to Ikleel’s bank account at Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB).

Police intelligence report also showed six other cases had been reported from August to September last year.

The male suspect holds criminal records for robbery, fraud, assault and other offenses.

The suspect was stopped near IGMH by the female suspect around 21:30hrs on August 26th. The woman had invited the victim to a guesthouse room, where she and her partner robbed the victim of his possessions, including his phone and cash card. The suspects had then withdrawn the money using the card.
