Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has announced a ban on Cofsy, a popular cough syrup produced in India over quality concerns.

In a statement on Monday, MFDA said that the decision was made after “particles” were found in the syrup.

The MFDA said it is running tests ascertain the safety of the medicine.

“Therefore, the import, sale and consumption of this medicine is prohibited until this authority runs tests and informs otherwise,” said the MFDA.

Those who require additional information regarding this are asked to call MFDA’s hotline 7200321.

Cofsy syrup is manufactured by India’s MMC Healthcare Ltd. It is a combination medicine used in the treatment of cough with mucus. It also provides relief from runny nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes.
