Extra MVR 30 Mn allocation to improve rehabilitation system

The government has decided to add an MVR 30 million supplement in the budget to improve the rehabilitation system.

The announcement was made at the special ceremony held by Drug Court, last Thursday, celebrating those who completed their treatment under rehabilitation orders.

The ceremony was officiated by the National Drug Agency board’s chairman and State Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Lubna Mohamed Zahir Hussain. Judicial Service Commission (JSC) President Hussain Riza Adam, Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau, and other senior government officials were in attendance as well.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lubna revealed the government’s plans to add another MVR 30 million to the state budget to launch efforts to improve the rehabilitation system, and urged the government’s support in facilitating employment opportunities from state-owned enterprises (SOEs) for those who complete their treatment programs.

Chief Judge of Drug Court, Abdul Sattar Abdul Hameed underscored that undergoing rehabilitation treatment was not a trivial effort, and stressed on the importance of encouraging those who overcome these challenges to be reinstated into society.

The Drug Court, last year, ordered 586 individuals to undergo rehabilitation treatment, out of which 419 had completed their respective programs, while 173 had violated the order and subsequently faced sentences.

Memorial certificates were conferred to the participants who successfully completed their treatment, while the most outstanding staff and the employee with the best attendance record were conferred with prizes and memorial certificates.

Drug Court also conferred memorial certificate to Ali Adeeb, a private citizen for his service to the court and anti-drug initiatives.

Additionally, the court’s YouTube channel, aimed at raising public awareness towards Drug Court’s initiatives, was launched at the ceremony.
