MMC orders blocking "Dhenme" for unethical journalism

Maldives Media Council (MMC) has ordered blocking local news website "Dhenme" for unethical journalism practices.

The council, in a statement, confirmed it had reviewed the news website for its continued malpractice of spreading misinformation, fallacies, lewd language, slander and character assassination directed at individuals and entitites.

MMC said it has received multiple complaints about the continued spreading of indecent writings from the website.

The authority also said "Dhenme,"  despite multiple warnings demanding it discontinue such malpractice, has continued otherwise.

MMC's committee that reviewed these complaints reported to relevant authorities to block the website.

The Media Council, previously in 2013, had urged the media to cease unprofessional conduct.
