Independence Day parade postponed amid bad weather; no vehicle ban

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has postponed the ‘Walk of Honor’ parade scheduled for Friday evening in celebration of Maldives’ 59th Independence Day.

MNDF, via a post on X, said the parade was postponed to a later date in light of bad weather.

Subsequently, the planned motorized vehicle ban in Male’ from 4:00pm to 6:00pm will not take effect.

Notably, the flag hoisting ceremony scheduled for this morning was also canceled over the weather conditions.

The official Independence Day function will be held at the Social Centre tonight. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will address the nation during the ceremony, said the President’s Office.

Awards will also be presented to 138 long-serving civil servants during the ceremony.
