Ministry visits over 1,000 households for welfare checks

Ministry of Social and Family Development states they have visited over 1,000 households under its ‘Haalu Kihinei?’ program aimed at conducting welfare checks on the general public.

The Ministry, in this regard, said they have visited 1,015 households as of Monday, since May 30^th.

The main concern raised by Hiyaa flat residents during these visits, as per the Ministry, is the difficulties they face in acquiring healthcare.

They include difficulties in getting appointments for specialist doctors and in the transportation of persons with disabilities and the elderly to hospitals.

Other concerns highlighted by the residents included lack of own housing, difficulties arising as a result of many families residing in one household, lack of employment opportunities with adequate pay and lack of employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.

The Ministry added that it was working closely with relevant stakeholders to address issues identified under the ‘Haalu Kihinei’ program.

In this regard, the Ministry noted that it held meetings with the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) last week.

The Ministry also said it was undertaking efforts to provide housing for individuals that require special attention and protection.

‘Haalu Kihinei?’ program was launched by the Ministry as part of efforts to achieve President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision of a kind society.

Under this program, the Ministry will visit households in all residential islands for welfare checks. Minister for Social and Family Development Dr. Aishath Shiham has also visited some households as part of the program.
