Cable theft prompts power cuts in some Male’ areas

Cables at a STELCO sub-station located near Majeeedhiyya School were cut through and stolen prompting power cuts in some Male’ areas on Tuesday.

Police said the theft of cables at a STELCO sub-station near Majeedhiyya School was reported to the authority at approximately 6:21am Tuesday morning. The case is under further investigation by the Police.

STELCO, via a post on X, said the cablet theft has resulted in power cuts at Majeedhiyya School and some homes in Henveiru district’s Abadhahfehi Magu, Medhuziyaarai Magu, Kalhuhuraa Magu and Karankaa Magu.

The utility company is presently undertaking efforts to install new cables and restore power to these areas.

Prior to this, cables powering the streetlights installed at Izzudheen Magu near Male’ Food Court were also stolen. Frequent theft at Male’ mosques has also become a prevalent issue recently.
