Black magic suspect gets conditional bail

The local man arrested in suspicion of practicing black magic to cast a spell on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has been extended a conditional bail.

Maldives Police Service on Monday said they arrested a 58-year-old local man for the suspected act.

The suspect was summoned to Hulhumale' Magistrate Court for a remand hearing last Saturday, where the court decided on the conditional bail.

Though police confirms his bail, the authority did not specify the court's conditions on him.

Police also arrested State Minister of Environment Shamnaz Saleem and her sister, Senior Political Director of the Environment Ministry Sana Saleem in relation to the same case.

After the first seven-day remand on both Shamnaz and Sana expired on Monday, they were summoned to the Criminal Court where their remands were extended by another seven days.

Shamnaz is the ex-wife of President's Office Minister Adam Rameez - the two separated recently.

There have been reports that Rameez has already flown out of Maldives.

Shamnaz, who was the South-Henveiru member of Male' City Council resigned from her post after Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the then Mayor won last year's presidential election.

She was later appointed as the State Minister of Muliaage, the official Presidential Palace, after which she was appointed as the Environment Ministry's State Minister.
