A 17-year-old Palestinian girl arrived safely in Male’ on Monday morning, after fleeing Gaza, on which Israeli forces have intensified its attacks.
The girl, identified only as “Nada”, was evacuated to Maldives by local NGO, “Khidumaiy”.
Nada’s elder sister is married to a Maldivian, the son of Abdul Sattar Abubakr, a qari and president of Jamiyyatul Falah.
She will reside in Maldives under his care.
An official from the NGO, “Khidhumaiy”, told Sun that Nada’s sister currently resides in Malaysia. The organization is working on sending Nada to Kuala Lumpur, to live with her sister, and fund her education.
“We are also working on funding her studies in Malaysia with the assistance of Maldivian people,” said the official.
While Nada safely made it out, her parents and two younger sisters remain trapped in Gaza.
The NGO has asked for assistance from the Maldivian community to evacuate them.
“She said there are [Israeli] tanks near their home. She is pleading with us to save her mother, father, and younger siblings,” said the official.
Nada’s safe arrival in Maldives comes days after the family of Dr. Hassan Al-Kurdi, a professor at the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), was safely repatriated from Gaza to Maldives.
Nearly 36,000 people have been killed, and over 80,400 others wounded, in Israel’s war on Gaza, since October 7.
