New Academic Year begins on Sunday with over 96,000 students

Ministry of Education on Saturday revealed the new academic year will commence on Sunday with over 96,000 students enrolled to various schools in the Maldives this year.

According to the ministry's statement, nearly 40,3000 girls and 42,700 boys are enrolled in schools for the new academic year, out of which nearly 17,000 students will be attending to schools in the Greater Male' Area.

The ministry also revealed over 13,000 from the grades of LKG to Grade 12 will be attending private schools, out of which over 9,000 will be attending to private schools in Male' area.

A total of 2,250 students have been enrolled to Grade 1 in Male' area, while 2,081 new enrollments were submitted for Greater Male' Area schools for other grades.

Besides this 1,126 students have migrated to Male' area from the atolls ahead of the new academic year, while over 1,000 students had changed schools within Male' area.

The ministry highlighted the instrumental role played by teachers in providing quality education to students, and noted a total of 12,662 teachers and educators will be providing education across the schools which includes 10,729 local teachers and 1,933 foreign teachers.

In the new academic year, 162 schools will operate under a single-shift while 55 schools will operate with double-shifts.

Additionally, satellite education will be provided through six schools which include the schools in Fehendhoo, Fulhadhoo, Kondey, Rakeedhoo, V. Thinadhoo, and ADh. Dhidhdhoo.

Moreover, the ministry announced the school session on the first three days of the new academic year will be only three hours long in light of the current weather conditions.
