First surveys for integrated maritime hub in Gaadhoo completed

Survey team for L. Gaadhoo integrated maritime hub project.

The first surveys for the integrated maritime hub being developed in L. Gaadhoo were conducted last Wednesday by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and the Chinese company contracted the project, CAMC Engineering.

CAMC Engineering was awarded the development of an integrated maritime hub with a large number of maritime services in Gaadhoo on April 11th.

Seven experts from CAMC and a technical team from MPL participated in the first survey concerning the project.

As Gaadhoo is known as an area where turtles and tortoises lay eggs and hatch, the project will be carried out under an environmental-friendly concept that will conserve the natural diversity of Gaadhoo.

The area in Gaadhoo where where turtles and tortoises lay eggs and hatch will be conserved under this project. Additionally, a rehabilitation centre will also be developed.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s technical expertise and recommendation will be sought in formulating the concept of the project.

The project will include a cruise terminal and eco-resort – the first of its kind in the Maldives. Additionally, a superyacht marina, an off-shore bunkering and a transshipment harbor will also developed.

Gaadhoo has traditionally been noted as an ideal area to provide maritime services. However, the service has not been implemented to date.

The development of a maritime hub in Laamu Atoll is an electoral pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
