Kandi Ahmed Ismael Manik, who has served the tourism and business sectors of the Maldives, has died at the Nawaloka Hospital in Sri Lanka.
The President’s Office said that following the news of his death, the President contacted the wife of Kandi Ahmed Ismael Manik, Honorary Recipient of Nishaan Izzuddin Moomina Haleem by telephone and expressed his deepest condolences to her and the family. He said that the sincere services of Kandi Ahmed Ismael Manik to the country and government are of valued greatly.
The President’s Office also said that the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Mariyam Zulfa will depart to Sri Lanka this evening, to participate in the funeral prayers as a special delegate of the President.
The Late Kandi Ahmed Ismael Manik served in the tourism industry since it began in the Maldives in 1972. He worked as a key figure in the development of Bandos till 1974, and acted as a Manager of Vilingili Resort from 1974 to 1976.When the government decided to lease Vilingili in 1976, he rented it from the government, and was involved in the development and management of ituntil1979.
In addition, he worked on the development of K. Enboodhoo as a tourist resort. He registered a company by the name Kaimoo Travels and Hotel Services Private Limited, which manages several resorts and hotels.
Kandi Ahmed Ismael Manik was the recipient of an award by the Ministry of Tourism in 1997, given in celebration of figures involved in the introduction of tourism to the country. He was also the recipient of the National Award for Public Services in tourism in 1997, and the Honorary Award for Public Services in tourism in 2005.
