Sandhaan Ahanmaidhy released

Ahmed Ibrahim Didi (Sandhaan Ahanmaidhy) has been released just moments ago, after being held at the Dhoonidhoo investigation prison since late last night.

The Police said that he is released after obtaining the information necessary for the investigation.

Ahanmaidhy, who also spent days in prison during the previous regime, has also been summoned to the Criminal Court this afternoon. The Court orders his presence at the Court premises within two hours from 5.20pm.

This order was made following a case filed by Ahanmaidhy’s Lawyer, which argues that the government has acted in conflict with the law by arresting Ahanmaidhy under accusations of spreading unauthenticated information.

His release comes after a news release by the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM), calling for the respect for people’s rights.
