Muizzu resigns as Male’ City Mayor ahead of presidential inauguration

President Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has resigned from his post as the Mayor of Male’ City ahead of his inauguration as the next Maldivian president.

Muizzu’s inauguration ceremony is set to commence at 4:45pm this evening.

In a post on X, announcing his resignation as Male’ City Mayor, Muizzu thanked fellow councilors, senior officials and employees of Male’ City Council for the cooperation he had received from them during his tenure and the work they had carried out.

Muizzu also thanked Male’ City residents for the support they had given him during the election and post-election in discharging his duties as the mayor. He assured to remain committed to turning the hopes of Male’ City residents into a reality.

Muizzu, who had previously served as the Housing Minister, was elected Male’ City Council in April 2021 in a landslide win against MDP’s candidate Anas Abdul Sattar.
