Scholars of Adhaalath Party have sent a letter to the President, requesting an explanation of the term Moderate Islam and the rules of this religion.
The letter requests the President to make clear what he means by Moderate Islam and clarify the rules of this religion in writing to the Scholars Majlis of Adhaalath Party before 17 January.
“… A clarification of the term Moderate Islam is therefore requested in writing, with an explanation of the rules of this religion, to this Majlis, before 17 January 2012,” reads the letter by Adhaalath Party.
The letter also says that the Scholars’ Majlis of Adhaalath Party works to educate Maldivians on religious issues. Their aim is to spread accurate and complete religious information in the society in the largest scale possible.
The letter also explains the meaning of moderation in Islam as understood by the Scholars’ Majlis. They believe that Islam was sent as a response to believers of earlier religions such as Jews and Christians having lost their way, and as guidance to achieve contentment in this life and the next. In addition, it said that Islam is a complete religion and does not involve ranking.
“Islam is a complete religion. There are no ranks involved in Islam. And still we keep repeatedly hearing your statements regarding Moderate Islam,” says the Scholars’ letter.
