Kanditheemu MP Mohamed Hussain has said that he will reveal which party he will join at the end of the two month parliament recess. Mohamed Hussain recently left the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP).
Mohamed Hussain left DRP upon dissatisfaction over the manner in which the party voted in the parliament motion on establishing secret voting on no-confidence motions.
He said that he is currently “an independent” member and his party will be “guaranteed” by the time parliament reopens. He also said he does not want to further comment on the issue.
While Mohamed Hussain has shown such interests, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom had said last month that some MPs will soon join his Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). Mohamed Hussain has held the post of Special Advisor to the President during the Maumoon’s administration.
MPs changing parties during parliament recess has recently become the norm. Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed, Maafannu West MP Abdulla Abdul Raheem, Feydhoo MP Al’han Fahumee and Fuahmulak-central MP ShifaqMufeed (Histo) also changed parties during parliament recess.
