Foreign national who assaulted and threatened to kill a Maldivian arrested

A foreign national who assaulted and threatened to kill a Maldivian has been arrested by the police.

The incident took place late last night in Coffee Corner located on Buruzu Magu. Sun reporters happened to be present in the café at the time of the incident.

The assault began when an argument between a group of foreign nationals heated up, and a glass hurled at one of them hit a Maldivian on the head and broke.

The two people started arguing, and the police arrived at the scene and arrested both people. However the Maldivian was released later last night.

“Things got out of hand during an argument among themselves [foreign nationals]. I was having tea here, and an attack aimed at one of them ended up hitting me. And when he threatened to kill me, police came and arrested him,” the Maldivian who was released told Sun.

Police said that the matter is under investigation.
