Nilam, Hameed and Dhiyana to be summoned to Parliament Committee on Government Oversight

Parliament Committee on Oversight of the Government has decided to summon the former Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Head of Intelligence Mohamed Nimal and former Police Head of Intelligence Mohamed Hameed (MC Hameed) and former Gender Minister Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed in relation to the review of the Commission of National Inquiry (CoNI) report.

They committee has decided to summon them on the 9th of next month. CoNI report is the report compiled by the commission which was mandated to investigate the legitimacy of the transfer of power from former president Mohamed Nasheed.

The motion was passed by the MDP majority committee along with the vote of PPM parliamentary group member Ahmed Shareef. Dhiyana, Hameed and Nilam are to be summoned to the committee individually.

The committee had decided to summon Dhiyana at 11:00 am, MC Hameed at 12:00 pm and Nilam at 1:00 pm on the 9th of next month. The committee had also decided to have Dhiyana present while Nilam and Hameed are to be inquired, and for Nilam and Hameed’s statements to be made private.

Dhiyana, who has also held the post of SAARC Secretary General, is being summoned to the committee in relation to a report she published recently named “Silent Inquiry”, with regard to nature in which President Nasheed had resigned. The committee had decided to inform Dhiyana to bring this report while answering her summons.

Nilam is currently the commander of the Maldives National Defence Force Marine Corps. MC Hameed has been dismissed from the Police service. Dhiyana has also been dismissed from the post of Minister of Gender.

The committee had also voted unanimously to continue work on the review of the CoNI report during the two months the Parliament is to be in recess.
