Juvenile Court has sentenced a minor to two years of imprisonment after being convicted of vandalizing the VTV building during the protests staged by MDP against the President giving his Presidential Statement on 19th March this year.
The Juvenile court sentence passed today states that the 17 year old had confessed in court that he had thrown “a few not very large bricks” at the VTV building on 19th March around 10:30 am. The sentence also says that photographs and video footage provided to the court by the state also shows the boy, while standing in front of the VTV building, had thrown stones at the security personnel in front of the building and the building itself.
The boy was sentenced guilty under Article 2 (c) of the Act Prohibiting Intimidation and Ownership of Dangerous and Sharp Objects, and was sentenced to imprisonment for two years under Article 2 (e) of the same Act after giving due consideration to the “Regulation on Investigating and Giving Just Punishment to Minors”.
Criminal Court has also sentenced eight people for seven years of imprisonment last October for vandalizing the VTV office. They are Ahmed Naeem of H. Ladhumaage Aage, Ismail HammadofRaa Maduvvari Fehiali, Hussain Shifau Jameelof M. Nooruzeyru, Anim HassanofAlif Alif Feridhoo Aazaadhuge, Ahmed Hameedof Raa Alifushi Hameedheemanzil, Hussain Hameedof Raa Alifushi Hameedheemanzil, Mohamed Hameed of Male’ Dhaftharu 7471 and Ahmed Muheenof G. Haalam.
