Jausa Jaufar withdraws name from PPM Deputy Presidency run

Jaufaru “Jausa” Easa Adam, who had put in his name for Deputy Presidency of Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) in the upcoming Party elections, has withdrawn his name from the run.

Jaufar confirmed his withdrawal to Sun Online today, and said that he would still run for membership of the Party Council, which would have eight elected members.

Jaufar, who server in Parliament as Member for Haa Alif Atoll constituency some time ago, said that he would now lend his support to Abd al-Rahim Abdullah who is contesting for party deputy presidency. Abd al-Rahim, MP for Fonadhoo Constituency in Parliament, is also the Interim Deputy President of PPM as of now.

Jaufar said that he had withdrawn his name from the race and decided to support Abd al-Rahim in order to honor the latter, who has been a very able Interim Deputy President, who had always worked for the future of PPM.

Seven individuals put in their names for deputy presidency of PPM when party elections were announced a while ago. As of now, four of them have withdrawn their names. Before Jaufar, Ahmed Mahloof, MP for Galolhu Dhekunu Constituency, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Mani, MP for Vilimaafannu Constituency, and Moosa Zameer, MP for Kinbidhoo Constituency, have also taken back their names.

Now, the candidates running for the post are Abd al-Rahim, Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adeeb, and MP for Gemanafushi Constituency Ilham Ahmed.
