Ex-President Yameen’s mother passes away

Fathimath Hassan, the mother of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has passed away in Sri Lanka early Monday morning. 

She passed away at the age of 86 after a long illness.

Sun has learned her funeral is scheduled for tonight.

Fathimath Hassan is survived by six children. She was living in Sri Lanka alongside her daughter Muslima Abdul Gayyoom. Fathimath Hassan is the aunt of Velidhoo MP Abdulla Shafeeq.

At the time of his mother’s passing, Yameen is presently serving an 11-year prison sentence after being found guilty of money laundering and bribery in connection to the sale of V. Aarah for tourism development. His sister, Moomina Abdul Gayyoom also passed away while he was incarcerated.
