Nihan and Mahloof withdraw names from election for post of PPM Vice President

Vilimaafannu MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik and Galolhu-south MP Ahmed Mahloof, who earlier announced their decisions to contest in the election for the post of Vice President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), have withdrawn their names as election contestants.

They announced this in a press conference ongoing on DhiTV. They both said that the reason for withdrawing their names is a decision by the party leadership to give the opportunity to new and capable people.

Subsequently, both Nihan and Mahloof said that they will support Fonadhoo MP and present Interim Vice President of PPM Abdullah Abdul Raheem and Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb, who have also announced that they will contest in this election.

A total of seven persons expressed interest in contesting in the PPM primary election for a vice president to be held from 17 to 19 January. They were Adheeb, Abdul Raheem, Gemanafushi MP Ilham Ahmed, Kinbidhoo MP Moosa Zameer, and former Executive Chairman of PA Jaufar Eesa Adam.
