Applications open for MMC membership

Home Ministry has opened applications for Maldives Media Council (MMC)’s membership.  

The application was opened as incumbent member Mohamed Shaafiu’s term is set to expire on September 10th.

MMC members are elected for a two-year term and cannot serve two consecutive terms.

The deadline for applications is July 16th.

Eligibility requirements that need to be met for MMC membership include being a Maldivian above 18 years of age; not being found guilty of a criminal offense at court of law and not being found guilty of an offense with respect to any articles publicized on a news outlet within the past 12 months.

Home Ministry states priority will be allocated to individuals who have done higher education in a field related to law, Dhivehi language, human rights, religious education, or social science and individuals who have carried out work for social development, especially related to children, women and persons with disabilities.

MMC comprises of 13 members; seven members elected from media outlets and six members appointed from the general public.
