Metal pieces found in meals served to MPs

Members of Parliament (MPs) have brought to the attention of the Parliament Speaker that metal pieces were found in the meals that were served for lunch this afternoon.

Maafannu-west MP Abdullah Abdul Raheem said that metal pieces and a razor blade were found in the food of two MPs, namely Kelaa MP Dr Abdullah Mausoom and Villingili MP Mohamed Ramiz, and that they stopped eating upon finding these items in their food.

Sun Online understands that the food was catered today and yesterday for the parliament by King’s Corner located near the parliament building.

MPs raised a procedural point during the debate on the Bill on MPs’ Privileges to bring the issue to the attention of the Speaker. Even though it was not accepted as a procedural point, the Parliament Office has assured that the issue was under investigation.

Earlier, several MPs, parliament employees and security officers were food poisoned after consuming food catered by Beach Café owned by Mohamed Thaufeeg (South Thaufeeg). Catering from Beach Café was ceased after that incident.Investigations by the Police and Maldives Food and Drug Authority revealed that the food was catered by MaarukeytuHotaa.
