PPM quits National Movement

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has left the People’s National Movement. The movement comprises of political parties and civil society organizations.

Talking at the parliament session today PPM council member and Galolhu South MP Ahmed Mahloof said that the party decided to leave the movement during a council meeting held last night.

Mahloof said that PPM decided quit the movement because a person had criticized the party’s Parliamentary Group Leader and Mulaku MP Abdulla Yameen during the rally held last Saturday to celebrate the anniversary of the mass rally held on 23rd December last year.

Saturday’s rally saw some disorder following criticism of Yameen. Some of the key leaders of the national movement were also noticeably absent during the Saturday’s rally.

The Peoples National Movement is now working on activities against the parliament under the slogan “People’s Majlis to the People”. Parliament members have raised concerns regarding these activities.
