More than 200 foreign teachers arrive in Maldives

More than 300 foreign teachers will arrive and join schools in Male’ in preparation of the school year scheduled to begin on Sunday, the Ministry of Education has said.

Director of the Ministry Mohamed Saeed said that the teachers, as required by the schools, have started arriving in Male’ since 18 December, of which 208 teachers have already arrived and joined the schools. He also said that 100 more will arrive in the next two days, and that most of them will teach secondary levels.

The Ministry said that majority of the teachers come from India and Sri Lanka.

“For secondary schools, we get teachers from India and Sri Lanka. 208 teachers have already arrived, 100 more will come soon,” Saeed said.

He said that the Colleges in Male’ have trained teachers this year, as a way of helping the Education Ministry, and that most of these teachers will be located in Atoll schools. More than 128 teachers trained by the University, Mandhu College and Villa College will be actively teaching this year.

Education Ministry has yesterday started a two-day workshop involving the heads of schools, in preparation of the new school year.
