Three opposition MPs named and removed from floor for shouting

Three lawmakers belonging to opposition PPM-PNC coalition have been named and removed from the parliament floor during Monday’s sitting for shouting.

The MPs who were named and removed from the parliament floor are Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam, Maavah MP Mohamed Saeed and Faresmaathoda MP Hussain Mohamed.

Home Minister Imran Abdulla was summoned doe Monday’s sitting. As the minister began to respond to the parliamentarian’s questions – Shiyam began shouting, calling for the release of the jailed opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s presidential candidate, former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyom. He also raised the question as to why the opposition leader have been jailed as the presidential election nears.

Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla, who was presiding over the sitting, repeatedly cautioned Shiyam. However, he did not stop shouting.

When Eva named Shiyam, Siyam, alongside Saeed and Hussain Mohamed went directly up to Minister Imran and surrounded him. Thus, Eva named Saeed and Hussain Mohamed as well.

Nevertheless, the MPs had not ceased their conduct. Subsequently, the sitting was temporarily stopped for three minutes to establish order. It took five minutes to establish the order before the sitting resumed.
