Notice sent to Home Minister in relation to no-confidence voting

Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Shahid has sent the 14-day notice to Home Minister Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed in relation to the no-confidence motion submitted to the parliament against him.

This is the second time a no-confidence motion has been submitted to parliament against Jameel. The earlier motion, filed by MDP, was withdrawn by the party last minute.

The motion was signed by 17 MPs and submitted by MDP last Monday.

Article 101 (a) of the constitution states that no-confidence motions against ministers can be submitted to parliament with signatures of minimum ten MPs.

Notice in relation to no-confidence motion has also been sent to Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim.

Article 101 (b) of the Constitution says that at least fourteen days’ notice of the debate in the Parliament concerning a motion of no-confidence shall be given to the concerned member of the Cabinet, and that he shall have the right to defend himself in the sittings of the Parliament, both orally and in writing.
