Male’ City Council seeks party to renovate Lonuziyaaraiy Park

Male’ City Council is seeking a party to provide assistance to the council in the renovation and upkeeping of Lonuziyaaraiy Park.

The development of Lonuziyaaraiy Park was initiated during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration. However, the project was completed during the current administration.

The park was completed and inaugurated in 2020 in conjunction with the Republic Day by long-serving state dignitary late Umar Zahir.

Male’ City Council has undertaken many efforts to date in order to upkeep the park developed as a green and relaxing public space.

They said many areas of the park have been significantly damaged requiring renovation. In this trajectory, the council has made a public announcement on the government gazette seeking a party that would undertake the renovation through their own equipment.

Male’ City Council’s Secretary General Mujthaba Jaleel detailed to Sun that fences installed at Lonuziyaaraiy Park need to be fixed due to rusting from sea salt.

“Walkway is also damaged. Some of the woodwork installed at the part needs to be fixed as well,” he added.

Mujthaba noted that the park will be closed in phases for renovations.

Lonuziyaaraiy Park is the most frequented park and heavily vegetated park in Male’ City. It is a prime location for weddings and other social activities.

Approximately MVR 16.8 million was spent from the state budget for the development of the park.
