Opposition holds ‘Bunvaru’ rally calling to free Yameen

Opposition PPM-PNC coalition, on Friday evening, held ‘Bunvaru’ rally on the sidelines of ‘Hope Conference’ launched in preprations for the upcoming presidential election.

The coalition reports over 5,000 people took part in the rally including the coalition’s leadership and supporters of the imprisoned opposition leader, former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.

The rally kicked off at 4:00pm this evening, in front of PPM headquarters.

Participants of the rally called to free Yameen. Police arrested an individual during the course of the rally who tried to stir a disturbance by breaking up the rows of participants on a motorbike. No further details regarding the arrest have been disclosed by the police.

The rally concluded near the Artificial Beach area with a special Dua.

‘Hope Conference’ will proceed at Dharubaaruge tonight as well.

The opposition coalition reports that the conference is aimed at preparing for the presidential election by gathering members in one place to regroup in order to move forward with campaign trips and other election-related matters.

It is participated by the opposition coalition’s leadership, constituency presidents, vice presidents, women’s wing presidents, youth wing presidents and steering committee presidents.
