Covid update: New infections fell to 5 last week

Statistics released by Health Protection Agency (HPA) show new cases of Covid-19 fell to five last week.

The five new cases reported from January 15-21 included three cases from the greater Male’ area, one case from a residential island outside Male’, and one case from other areas – which includes resorts, industrial islands, and boats.

Nine new cases had been reported in the first week of January and six cases in the second week. The figures are a sharp contrast to the high infection rates seen last year – with over 180 new cases recorded in July alone.

With the five new cases last week, Maldives now has 185,713 confirmed cases. 311 people have died from complications.
