MDP against PPM

PPM has said that MDP is against the legal representation of PPM in the Parliament because of their fear of losing the President elections.

PPM’s spokesperson, Galolhu Dhekunu MP Ahmed Mahloof said that now that the case regarding PPM obtaining legal representation in the Parliament has been passed on to the Parliament by the Majlis Committee, PPM will not go down on their knees to beg of MDP for their support regarding this case. PPM will neither cry in desperation, nor “fall to the feet” of MDP members.

Regarding the statements made by MDP members to the media regarding allowing PPM legal representation at the Parliament, Mahloof said that PPM is not asking for anything from MDP.

“Shifaz, member of MDP’s Parliamentary group, has said PG has decided to not support allowing PPM this opportunity. Madaveli MP Mohamed Nazim said that nothing had been decided. Leader of Parliamentary Group and Hinnavaru MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that no decisions had been made. It could be that they are not in their proper senses after the New Year celebrations,” Mahloof said.

Mahloof also noted the case of Al’haan Fahmy, who was elected to the Parliament as a member of DRP but changed to MDP later, and whose proposal to speak at the Parliament was agreed to and supported for – and therefore, there is no reason for MDP to oppose PPM’s representation in the Parliament.

Mahloof further said that in order for PPM to obtain legal representation, several party members belonging to the PG group are willing to resign even today, and that this will be decided after discussions within the Parliamentary group. Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that he will not hesitate to resign and run for the same seat as a candidate of PPM.
