Aasandha available to Clinics which comply with the program: President

Private clinics which are willing to comply with the rules of the Aasandha program will be given the opportunity to serve under this scheme, the President Mohamed Nasheed has said.

Visiting the government’s main hospital IGMH to observe the services under Aasandha program, which was implemented yesterday, the President said that this service should also be made available at Clinics. However, this can only be possible for the Clinics which comply with the rules of this scheme.

“Generally, it is not common for private clinics to be included in services such as the Aasandha program. They operate in the private sector. Those who visit them will have to pay for the services. However, there should exist some clinics which comply with the rules of Aasandha program,” the President said.

He said that ADK Hospital has joined Aasandha by agreeing to comply with its rules, and if Clinics are willing to do the same, they will be given the opportunity to join the scehme as well.

He also said that the health sector can only be improved by making changes to the entire system, and that the introduction of Aasandha program will facilitate improvements in the health sector.

Regarding his promise to end people having to beg for money to pay for medicine, he said that with the introduction of Aasandha, people will no longer have to do that.

“It has always been the wish of Maldivians to obtain the necessary medical treatments without problems,” the President said.
