The Supreme Court has ordered to halt the process of appointing a replacement for Mohamed Fahmy Hassan as Civil Service Commission member following the recent removal of Fahmy from his post by a vote taken at the Parliament, until the Court makes a decision on the case filed in this regard.
This decision comes in relation to a case filed by Fahmy requesting for a temporary order in this regard following his removal.
The Supreme Court order issued today refers to article 144 (b) of the Constitution and states that all work by all relevant state authorities to appoint a replacement for Fahmy to the vacant seat at the Civil Service Commission should be halted until the Court makes a decision on the case filed by Fahmy.
Fahmy was removed from his post as Civil Service Commission member by the Parliament on 20 November.
The report sent to Parliament by the Independent Institutions Committee, which accused Fahmy of sexual harassment at the workplace, was voted in favour by 38 out of 72 MPs present at the Parliament sitting. While 32 MPs voted against the report, two MPs abstained.
MPs who voted to remove Fahmy included MPs of MDP and DRP.
