Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is seeking a party to provide ferry service between Male’ City and K. Kudagiri, the picnic island developed for residents in Male’ area.

The Corporation is seeking four ferries for daily operations between Male’ and Kudagiri; two ferries with a capacity of 50 to 70 people and two ferries with a capacity of 80 to 100 people.

In their announcement of invitation to submit Express of Interest (EOI) – HDC also stipulated the exact times the ferry will be held. In this regard, ferries in the morning from Male’ to Kudagiri will be at 6:30am, 6:50am and 7:10am. Ferries in the evening from Kudagiri to Male’ will be at 5:20pm, 5:40pm and 6:00pm.

The deadline to submit EOI by interested parties to provide the ferry service is 11:00am on December 7.

Kudagiri which was developed as a picnic island for residents in Male’ area was initially supposed to be inaugurated on Independence Day this year. However, the plan had been unsuccessful over incompletion of all works on the island.

Development of a picnic island to residents of Male’ area is an electoral pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Previously, Male’ area residents had been using Kudabandos as a picnic island. However, the island was leased for the development of a resort during former President Mohamed Waheed’s administration.

The government has stated that Kudagiri will be larger than Kudabandos. As per Planning Ministry, MVR 41 million will be incurred for the development of the new picnic island.
