Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem announces upcoming resignation

In order to represent PPM in the Parliament, L. Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla has decided to resign from his post and compete for this seat as a member of PPM.

Speaking at a news conference held today at PPM Office, Abdul Raheem said that this decision comes due to attempts to obtain an official representation of PPM at the Parliament have so far been unsuccessful. He also said that several members of the Parliament work against allowing a PPM representation at the Parliament, and that he will ensure that they will not be successful in this regard.

“After the break, I will start at the Majlis as a member who has won a seat for PPM,” Abdul Raheem said. “I want to say that I am resigning as Fonadhoo MP , and will compete for the same post as a member of PPM and represent PPM in the Parliament in the upcoming session.”

Abdul Raheem also said that he had been trying to represent PPM since the middle of last Parliamentary session, and proposed revisions to the General Committee rules. This was, however, unsuccessful. He said that this case was not included in today’s Agenda as the President of the Majlis Shaahid and Leader of DRP Ahmed Thasmeen Ali are not in favor of it.

“When Thasmeen joined the Majlis, he was the majority leader of the Majlis, now he is the minority leader. So if PPM is allowed official representation at the Majlis, he will lose this opportunity, and therefore the case was denied,” Abdul Raheem said.

Abdul Raheem said that he will travel to Fonadhoo within the next two weeks to discuss this matter with the respective Maldivian citizens.
