Addu’s Hira School student departs to Egypt to attend COP27

A student from Hira School, in Addu City’s Hithadhoo district, has departed to Egypt, to attend the biggest international conference regarding environmental matters; 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27).

In 2021, Hira School won the prestigious Zayed Sustainability Prize in the Global High Schools category for the South Asian region. The Zayed Sustainability Prize, launched in 2008, is the UAE’s pioneering global award in sustainability and a tribute to the legacy of the founding father of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The opportunity to attend COP27, is as a result, for the purpose of representing Zayed Sustainability at the conference.

The student from Hira School that have departed to Egypt is Aisha Sara, a tenth grader.

Hira School’s Principal Mariyam Risalaa said that the opportunity is a great honor for the school and its students.

“This opportunity that has been opened for our students, is an opportunity for them to become exposed to other similar platforms. Participating in such international conferences is an upswing for the students too,” she had said.

COP27 will be held from today, till November 8, at Sharm El-Sheikh, a resort in Egypt.

Vice President Faisal Naseem departed to Egypt on Friday, as the head of the Maldivian delegation.
