Dinghy carrying three Somalians caught outside Ga. Atoll

Three Somalians have been caught outside Ga. Atoll.

The dinghy carrying three Somalians was found 45 miles outside Ga. Atoll yesterday around 9.30am by a dhoni from Ga. Dhevvadhoo called “Thedhumagu”. According to MNDF, the Somalians were waving at the Thedhumagu Dhoni, trying to attract attention. When the dhoni approached the dinghy, they said that they were Somalians, and were allowed onboard the Thedhumagu Dhoni when they recited the Shahada.

They were then taken to Dhevvadhoo, as advised by MNDF. They are currently under the supervision of Ga. Vilingili Police Station. The three Somalian people saved include a child of under 18 years. Their health conditions do not seem serious, and the Vilingili Police Station is now trying to determine their health conditions more accurately.

According to the Vilingili Police Station, the Somalians were not holding any weapons. They also said that they are now investigating this case.

Somalians were found in Maldivian waters late last year as well. More than 30 people who were found in different parts of Maldives, are still at Dhoonidhoo jail.
