GMR agrees to hand over airport

The government has said that GMR has assured that it will cooperate with handing over the airport to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).

MACL Managing Director Mohamed Ibrahim told Sun Online today that GMR is making the final preparations to hand over the airport to MACL, and that GMR has decided to cooperate in relation to this matter.

“I have worked with GMR. I am confident that they will cooperate with us in handing over the airport. We have been assured of that,” said Mohamed Ibrahim.

Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim, who is also the current Acting Transport Minister, said that he held meetings today with two senior officials of GMR who are presently visiting the Maldives, and that a consensus had been reached on the issue of handing over the airport.

“They have said that they will cooperate. That assurance has been given,” Nazim said.
