Another person has fallen victim to dengue, this time a 41 year-old man from Hithadhoo, Addu City. Mr. Ali Ahmed, 41, Durumeege, Hithadhoo, died of the fever not long after he was brought to Malé for further treatment.

The new victim was the 7th victim claimed by the killer fever, within a few days, after a breakout of rare magnitude happened. Last week, five children died of the disease.

Abdulla Thayyib, a senior official from Addu Dengue Task Force said that Mr. Ali Ahmed was admitted in the regional hospital at Addu on the 28th of last month after a diagnosis of dengue and that he was sent to Malé when his family requested. He was accompanied by a doctor, a nurse and members of his family.

“His condition was very critical. But he was discharged from the hospital to be taken to Malé when the family requested for that repeatedly. There was a delay in sending him to Malé only because of his condition”, Mr. Saeed said.

According to statistics given by the Dengue Task Force, 76 cases of the diagnosis were recorded in six islands since the outbreak of the epidemic. That is 13 cases in H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi, 10 in B.
