Tourist dies in speed boat accident

A tourist has died, and several people have been seriously injured in a dangerous speed boat accident outside Dhoonidhoo tonight.

A Police Media Official said that the accident occurred at around 8:25pm, when a speed boat travelling from Male’ collided with one travelling to Bandos.

He informed that the tourist who died was a man on the Bandos speed boat. His nationality is not yet known.

He said that the body of the person who died has been transported to IGM Hospital, and the rest of the injured people have been taken to ADK Hospital.

A senior official of ADK said that several people have been admitted at the hospital following this accident.

He said that more details will be revealed after the information is checked.

Police said one of the speed boats involved in the accident is missing, and that search efforts are under way.

22:10 - A Sun Online reporter at the hospital said that a Maldivian man and a woman have just arrived at the hospital.

22:12 - A total of eight people were injured and taken to the hospital. They are all Maldivians, four men and four women. The hospital has informed that six people are being treated in emergency. Two people have suffered very serious injuries. One of them have a broken jaw, while the other has sustained a serious head injury.

22:51 - One person who was just brought out of the emergency room moments ago had a broken hand, while another person had a wound on the face.

23:10 - Two people have been transferred to the ward. One person has a serious head injury, while the other has an injured hand.
