GMR has requested a temporary order from the High Court of Singapore, to allow it to postpone taking any action on the notice given by the Maldivian government until the arbitration process for the case is completed.
Attorney General Aishath Azima Shakoor told Sun Online today that GMR filed this case to Singapore High Court today, and that a hearing was held this morning.
However the Court has not yet issued the order requested by GMR.
Azima said that the next hearing will be held on Monday.
The government terminated its contract with GMR on Tuesday, and gave the company seven days to hand over the airport, and thirty days to remove its property.
CEO of GMR Male’ International Airport Andrew Harrison, when contacted about this request by GMR, said that efforts are under way by the company’s lawyers in Singapore to take the necessary legal action to protect the company’s business activities.
The Maldivian government has decided to revoke the permit issued to GMR that allows it to operate Male’ International Airport.
It has also decided to cancel the work permits and visas of GMR personnel.
Efforts are under way by the Maldivian government to transfer the management of the airport to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
