We sometimes underestimate the importance of these relations: Mulay

Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives D. M. Mulay has said that strong relations exist between the lives of the people of India and Maldives; however, sometimes we underestimate the importance of these relations.

Mulay made this remark while speaking at a ceremony held last night to celebrate the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program, whereby India provides technical and economic assistance to Maldives.

Mulay said that this celebration ceremony had to be held at a time when the news going around is not all that favourable.

Referring to the relations between the two countries, he highlighted that Maldives imports everything from onions to construction material from India, and that almost all households in Maldives watch Indian series on TV.

Mulay said that he was not satisfied with how the ITEC program is implemented in the Maldives.

ITEC is a program undertaken by India, to facilitate training of personnel, and sharing of information and cultural and education experiences.

People who completed courses under Indian aid shared their experiences at last night’s ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Colonel retired Ahmed Nazim and Commissioner of Police Abdullah Riyaz.
