The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that the termination of the agreement signed by former President Mohamed Nasheed’s government with operator of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA), Indian company GMR, will not affect the historic relations between India and Maldives.
PPM made this remark in a statement released yesterday.
It said that the government’s decision to terminate the agreement was an important one to protect the rights of Maldivian citizens.
“It is PPM’s hope that the government’s decision to terminate the agreement with GMR will not affect the historic friendship between the governments and people of the Maldives and India,” PPM said in its statement.
PPM congratulated and praised the government for this decision.
Meanwhile, the Indian government said in a statement last night that it will take all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of its interests and its nationals in the Maldives.
